Non Fiction November

During the month of November, we have been writing a non-fiction book.

We are writing in pairs a book about fantastic beasts. In order to do so, we had to look at non chronological reports and assess their components.

In a non-chronological report, we have to mention where the beast is from and provide a map to help the reader locate the country. In our book, we will have a map and a short description next to it. During our Monday ICT lesson, we learned how to use the snipping tool and how to work on Office word in order to make our text appeal to a particular audience.

As you can see, my work in not completed yet, but I am nearly there. It was hard at first to layer all the pictures, but then once I started feeling more confident using Office word and the Snipping tool, it became a lot easier.

Venus class assembly

On the 25th November, Venus class presented their assembly on personification.

The aim of the presentation was to teach to students in the school was is personification as well as show case our work.

We came up with the idea of doing an assembly on Personification when we realised how hard we had worked on our poem. Afterwards, Miss Goulet showed us videos where students had recorded their poems.

It was hard to record our voices, the school is so noisy....

Since it was a bit noisy in the hall, here are the videos and the Prezi we presented.

Programming with scratch

On Monday November 14th, 2016 at the ICT suite, Mars and Venus students have used the software Scratch for the first time.

The aim of the lesson was to make a ball bounce.

I learned that controlling sprites on Scratch isn't so easy as it looks. When I was doing 'bouncing ball', I finished up my instructions, but did not check it every now and then so when I tried it, it sped around the edges. I thought, "that doesn't look like it's bouncing. " I found an error I made and corrected it.

I am happy I learned something and will from now on always

test my program

Poetic pictures

During the last two ICT lessons, Mars class has been working on presenting our personification poems in order to appeal to a certain audience.

We have learned to add an image in the background as well as change the colours of the font in order to make it more interesting. The picture we added onto our work is free or being modified or published. If you select it on Google Images so you know afterwards that you'll be allowed to publish the image. If you do not have the rights, you cannot modify a picture.

Whilst working on our Office word document, we tried to type with both our hands on the keyboard. Evie and I also realised that when there is a red line underneath a word, it means we spelled it wrong. This is very helpful when you need to publish your work, this way we now know that we will not have any spelling mistakes in our work YAY!!

We hope that you like our work and that you find it interesting.

This week, when we commented on our blog, we discovered that comments had to be approved before they could be published. The reason is that there has been inappropriate ones left on our year group blog. Miss Goulet has reported them like you should always do when such thing happens.

This term, as well as learning about Office Word, we learned to be safe online.
